Elbetunnel 09:11

about

I was on holiday in Hamburg.

Elbetunnel is a ten minute Komische / Krautrock homage with field recordings made inside The River Elbe. The length of the track is how long it took to slowly wander and walk through with my field recorder.

When I reached the other side, I had lunch from the van and drank a beer from there. Lunch was a roll-mop herring in a large bun. After I drank and munched, I sat and watched the container ships and the packed summer ferries dart around. I pondered, I wonder if I could edit the recordings and add a layer from the tiny Korg NTS-1 synth in my bag, and do it all on my macbook?

And despite a fairly bright sun, i managed to pull it together. I thought, I wonder if I can have this finished before I return to the tunnel and come back to the other side?

I like the idea of a finished sketch being made on the fly, and despite the EQ and mastering being made under a stopwatch of sorts, I'd done it. And packed all the gear into my bag and walked back through.

The Elbe Tunnel itself is a sight to behold, the lifts and the staircases are situated in cavernous openings and there's a real sense of an unusual wide pair of entrances / exits there...
